Mayer Brown has retained eight of its 11 qualifiers for September 2017, a retention rate of 73 per cent.

The firm offered jobs to nine of the ten final seat trainees who applied for newly-qualified (NQ) positions. None of the eight who accepted are on fixed-term contracts.

The litigation team takes two NQs, with one apiece joining banking and finance; corporate, real estate; pensions; employment; and IP.

Mayer Brown training principal William Glassey said: “I want to congratulate our September qualifiers; they have all done extremely well. We are also delighted that eight of our trainees will be staying on in permanent positions within our practices. They represent our investment in the future of the firm and we look forward to watching their continuing development as they build their careers.”

Meanwhile, Blake Morgan has retained eight of its nine qualifiers, giving it a retention figure of 88 per cent.

Three trainees take up NQ jobs in the firm’s London office, two stay on in Oxford and three on the South Coast. Two of the NQs join the firms corporate practice and three go to employment. Commercial litigation, private client and real estate take one NQ each.

The firm previously kept on all 10 of its March qualifiers.

Training principal Tony Coyne said: “We are delighted to announce the appointment of our newly qualified lawyers. We have been impressed by each of their achievements and their enthusiasm to take on extra responsibility. They have all shown great talent and will be a real asset to the firm. We wish them every success for the future and a long and exciting career at Blake Morgan.”
