Mayer Brown has appointed Ian McDonald to head its eight-partner insolvency team in London.
He takes over from London litigation head David Allen and finance partner Ian Coles, who had dual responsibility for the practice before the appointment.
McDonald has been with Mayer Brown since 1990 and has been a partner in the restructuring, bankruptcy and insolvency (RBI) group since 1998.
The firm’s recent experience includes acting for creditors of Woolworths and Chelsea as well as on the restructuring of lending group GMAC.
Allen and Coles will now focus solely on their respective roles of head of litigation and joint global finance practice leader, which they held at the same time as running the RBI group.
Allen said the appointment was part of the firm’s plans to expand the London RBI group, adding: “We look forward to working with him to achieve the firms’ global ambitions.”
The firm specialises in cross-border restructuring and insolvency work, including refinancings, administrations, receiverships, liquidations and company voluntary arrangements (CVA).
