Magisters taps CMS Russia for projects chief

Kirill Ratnikov, who was a partner at CMS Russia, joined Magisters today and as well as heading the firm’s CIS-wide infrastructure and PPP practice will lead its burgeoning corporate team in Russia.

Ratnikov said: “Magisters is a dynamic firm with a great reputation, they can easily compete with the largest international firms in Russia.

“It’s a challenging role to work in two areas – PPP and M&A. But strategically I see Magisters as a very strong firm with government connections and, in M&A, I’m confident that my existing clients will join me and give me assignments.

“It’s an interesting market because we’re seeing an increase of corporate activity, particularly private equity deals and sales of distressed assets.

“It’s a difficult challenge, but a pleasure to take it on.”

Ratnikovbegan his career at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and had a stint at Coudert Brothers before joining CMS Cameron McKenna’s Moscow office in 2004.

His appointment comes shortly after Clemens Schlotter joined the firm from Beiten Burkhardt to lead the firm’s German desk in Moscow.

Magisters’ former head of PPP and founding partner Oleg Riabokon left the firm in September 2009 to run for public office in Ukraine (7 September 2009).
