Listed private equity outfit 3i has appointed City firm Macfarlanes to advise the group on its acquisition of independent financial adviser Bestinvest.
Macfarlanes corporate partner Charles Meek led his team alongside fellow corporate partner Luke Powell.
US firm K&L Gates advised Bestinvest’s founder John Spiers. Partner Kevin Dean, who had worked with Spiers in the establishment of Bestinvest in 1986, led the eight-member K&L team.
“I’ve known John Spiers for more than 20 years and I knew what he wanted and what he was looking for,” says Dean of the bidding process.
Dean’s fellow corporate partners Kathryn Thomas and Jeremy Davis were also on the team, which also included tax partner Peter Davis and employee incentives partner Ian Fraser.
3i was identified as an acquirer through a bidding process that was set up by K&L and accountants KPMG.
