Lord Irvine lobbied to allow cases to be taped

In a major development, the association has enlisted the help of Lord Justice Judge, who will write to Lord Irvine about reviewing the rules.
Head of legal for The Times and Fleet Street Lawyers general secretary Alistair Brett is mobilising the lobby effort. “I'll be writing to Lord Justice Judge, who will in turn be writing to the Lord Chancellor to see if the courts will relax the rules,” he said.
The move comes because of complaints springing from inaccurate court reporting. Brett is adamant that the lobbying effort is not designed to pave the way for the appearance of television cameras in courts, and that recordings will not be made available to television companies.
