Linklaters veteran quits for Shepherd & Wedderburn

Scottish-headquartered firm Shepherd & Wedderburn has landed a major hire for its London office with Linklaters corporate partner Steven Turnbull due to come on board in May.

Turnbull, who has spent 32 years with the magic circle firm, has advised clients such as ARM Holdings, Electra Private Equity, Flemings and Orange. As well as taking a position on Shepherd & Wedderburn’s corporate practice, Turnbull will be responsible for developing knowledge management within the firm.

Shepherd & Wedderburn chief executive Patrick Andrews said of Turnbull: “He has an outstanding reputation in the market as a corporate lawyer and will be of enormous help to us as we continue to grow our business in London. Steven’s appointment represents a unique opportunity for us to take our existing knowledge management capability to the forefront of that offered by UK law firms, delivering tangible efficiencies and benefits for both us and our clients.”

At Linklaters Turnbull was responsible for knowledge management within the firm’s corporate department, chairing a firmwide knowledge council from 2003 until 2007.

Linklaters senior partner David Cheyne said: “We would like to thank Steven for the huge contribution he has made to Linklaters over the years. We are pleased that he is joining Shepherd & Wedderburn for the next stage of his career – they are good friends of ours and we know many of their partners well. Steven will be an excellent addition to their London operation and I am sure that his appointment will significantly increase the number of opportunities for the two firms to work together.”
