Lincolnshire top legal post left in limbo

Lincolnshire top legal post left in limboThe lawyer appointed to run Lincolnshire County Council’s new-look legal practice will not be taking up the job following allegations made by a former colleague at ;Northamptonshire County Council, his former employer.

Chris ;Whittington’s appointment to the top legal post at Lincolnshire was suspended after the complaint emerged last October.

A statement made by Lincolnshire in November said: “Mr Whittington’s role at Northampton includes that of monitoring officer and so there’s been no alternative but to suspend him while these allegations are investigated.”

It is understood that the council has now withdrawn the job offer and will not be replacing him. Whittington, the former head of legal at Northamptonshire, has been left without a job while he fights to clear his name.

A Northamptonshire spokesman stressed that Whittington’s resignation had nothing to do with the suspension.

“These allegations came to light after Mr Whittington had resigned from his post at Northamptonshire County Council, having received an offer of employment
from Lincolnshire County Council,” the spokesperson added.

Lincolnshire lawyers Eleanor Hoggart and David Coleman have been appointed as interim managers.
