LG’s international referral list slashed

The firm carried out a review of its US relationship firms and discovered that its partners were instructing around 30 separate entities. It has decided to refine this to around six or seven.

Managing partner Hugh Maule said: “LG continues to develop its business internationally. Our approach is relationship-driven and internationally minded and most importantly driven by what our clients tell us they need.

“This is an ongoing assessment of our strategy, which focuses on parts of the world where we either have a critical mass of business and/or we wish to cultivate more business because it fits our key services and/or industry sectors.”

International work now accounts for around 30 per cent of LG’s total work, approximately 20 per cent of which comes from North America.

Meanwhile, the firm is looking to identify a single referral firm in India, down from the three it liaises with presently.

Ashurst recently took the step of reducing the number of firms it works with in the US, while Addleshaw Goddard is also looking to tighten its US referral roster (The Lawyer, 25 May 2009).
