A Middlesbrough law firm has found itself targeted by a criminal who wanted to be sent back to prison.
Michael Patrick Williams, a 61-year-old homeless man with 460 previous convictions, repeatedly smashed the windows of high street firm Watson Woodhouse, the Evening Gazette reports.
The firm spent £8,000 the replacing windows of its Grade II listed building, only for Williams to return the next day and smash them again, before handing himself into police.
He had been handed an eight-week suspended sentence by for smashing the windows the first time round, but on his second appearance in Teesside Magistrates’ Court his suspended sentence was activated and his total prison sentence increased to 18 weeks.
Told him that he would serve half his sentence on licence and nine weeks in jail, he said: “Champion! Thanks.”
Williams was also handed a restraining order prohibiting him from returning to Watson Woodhouse, with District Judge Kate Meek also ordering £250 compensation to be paid to the firm.
