Lawyers Against LonelinessThe Lawyer Shopping Channel

We haven’t had any bookshops yet so let’s head back to Helen Libson of Allen & Overy, who started this whole strand off. “My personal favourites are Lutyens and Rubinstein and The Book House,” she writes.

The Lawyer‘s journalists, by the way, do “Secret Book Santa” (copyright former news editor Natasha Bernal). This exactly like Secret Santa only better, because it’s only peoples’ favourite books instead of £5 novelty tat. This is our one recommendation for making your Christmas more enjoyable.

Anyway, here’s another indie bookstore that delivers: Cogito Books. Knock yourselves out.

Dog of the Day

“We have two dogs Walter and Albert,” says Holly Dwyer of Osborne Clarke. “They enjoy when we work from home. Sometimes it gets a bit boring but on occasion they do like to at least to pretend they are interested.”

Lockdown silver linings

Egg-painter extraordinaire Catharine Hammon started a hashtag at Osborne Clarke looking for the positives of the pandemic. Here are some of the responses she received: send us your own if you like.

  • I popped into our village bakery for a cinnamon bun this morning and made a gloomy comment about the cafe tables being put away once more – but got the response that at least they don’t have to do any boring washing-up of coffee cups!
It was a timely reminder to look for the #lockdownsilverlinings
  • No commuting must be top of the list, but also almost every day seeing something new on the daily walk.
  • EVEN more time spent in my pyjamas (from the waist down, obviously)!
  • Got to see ‘Tenet’ three times, and counting…
  • Listening to the radio in between Teams meetings and therefore being able to recognise quite a few songs in the top 20 singles chart (which I haven’t been able to do since I was a teenager…).

8D Audio

Now this isn’t a song per se, but on a deep YouTube hold one evening, I came across the wonderful world of 8D Audio – it is essentially an effect applied to a track where songs have been edited with special reverb and mixing to making it sound like the audio is moving in a circle around your head. In other words, it sounds pretty mad and almost like you are listening to live music (remember that?).

Stick some headphones in, sit back and immerse yourself in a truly epic experience. -Amar Mehta
