Profits also surged by 17 per cent to approximately $405m (£282m), with average profits per partner topping $1m (£696,555).
The US firm billed $762.6m (£531m) in its last financial year, boosting the $642.5m (£448m) total for 2000 by more than $100m (£70m). It now has 410 partners worldwide compared with 350 at the start of 2001.
Joe Blum, managing partner of Latham's London office, said: “We've had a terrific year. It's our best performance ever. Whatever was out there, we got.”
He put the firm's success in difficult market conditions down to diversification, particularly in the US. “We had a broad-based litigation practice that was red hot last year,” Blum added.
Latham also accrued an extra 300 lawyers, partly through European mergers.
