Latham appoints Moyle as London managing partner

US firm Latham & Watkins has appointed IT and outsourcing partner Andrew Moyle as its London managing partner.

US firm Latham & Watkins has appointed IT and outsourcing partner Andrew Moyle as its London managing partner.

Moyle replaces David Miles, who has been appointed to the firm’s executive committee, as reported on www.thelawyer. com (10 April). The firm’s chairman and managing partner Bob Dell was in London last week to consult partners about who should replace Miles.

Moyle told The Lawyer: “It’s a great honour and I’m really looking forward to it. David set it up so nicely and I want to drive the office forward.”

Moyle said his priority will be to keep the firm’s momentum going in London. “The challenge of the US law firm in London is to continue to build market share rather than a question of protecting it, which is a nice position to be in,” said Moyle. “We won’t lose sight of logical opportunities to expand.”

Moyle stated that internal promotions would form a key part of his strategy. In the most recent round of promotions the firm made up seven associates in London, bringing the partnership number up to 34.

He refused, though, to rule out future laterals hires. “We’ll look externally where it makes sense with our growth strategy,” he said.

Moyle is no stranger to management. He helped found and supervise Shaw Pittman’s London office. He spent six years as a partner at Shaw Pittman before leaving for Latham & Watkins in June 2003, together with IT partners Allen Klein and Robert Hasty, who moved to Latham’s Washington DC office.
