On August 13, the new Ontario PC government announced its plans to revamp the province’s approach to cannabis legalization and retail. Government-owned online distribution will be maintained and beginning October 17, consumers 19 and older will be able to purchase cannabis online through the Ontario Cannabis Store (OCS).

However, in a major change from the previous Liberal plan, the new government also announced that the province would immediately begin consultations in advance of opening up a regulated market for private cannabis retail, slated to launch by April 1, 2019. There will be no provincial cap on the number of private retailers.
