K&L Gates has made one of its smallest-ever promotions rounds, appointing 34 new partners globally including three in London.

The US firm has made up Catherine Adam, Martin King and Jennifer Marsh in the City.

Retail lawyer Adam joined the firm in 2016 from Olswang, while disputes lawyer King has been with the firm since 2007. He trained at Nicholson Graham & Jones, which was acquired by US firm Kilpatrick & Lockhart (K&L) in 2005.

Marsh was a competition associate at Travers Smith before joining K&L Gates in 2011. She trained at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.

A total of 50 per cent of the promotions come from the firm’s US offices, including Boston, Charleston, Dallas and Pittsburgh. Seattle saw the highest number of new appointments.

There were seven promotions in Asia and Australasia, while six new lawyers were appointed in Continental Europe.

There are two new partners in K&L Gates’ newest office in Munich, which opened in 2016 after the hire of three-partner team from King & Wood Mallesons.

The promotions round is significantly smaller than in previous years. K&L Gates made up 50 lawyers in 2016 and 2015, promoting a further 52 in 2014. There were 47 new partners globally in 2013, while 2012 also saw a small round announced of 30 lawyers.
