A man has been sentenced to a whole life term for the murder of a 25-year-old man at HMP Long Lartin, Worcestershire, from the summer of 2015.

In June 2015 West Mercia Police said Russell Anthony Oliver and Stephen Boorman had been charged with the murder of John York, an inmate who had been serving a life sentence for murder since March 2013.

John York was pronounced dead at HMP Long Lartin after being found seriously injured in a cell. A murder investigation had been launched after York had been pronounced dead by paramedics. It was alleged that York had an encounter with two other prisoners.

Stephen Boorman has now been found not guilty of murder or manslaughter, and was represented by No5 Barrister Jonas Hankin QC.
