Withers’ loss is London’s gain

Strewth mate. London’s credentials as one of the disputes and fraud centres of the world has just ratcheted up – a little – thanks to the launch of Aussie litigation boutique Lipman Karas.

For an increasing number of firms, litigation is the number one driver and London is where it’s at. For the former Withers team joining Lipman Karas, the focus is asset tracing and investigative litigation, currently one of the hottest sections of the legal market.

Okay, let’s not get carried away. This is a two-partner, five-lawyer team jumping ship from Withers to paddle its own Antipodean canoe down the saltwater crocodile-infested waters of the City.

But it comes on the back of a succession of recent moves and office openings in the sector, including Herbert Smith partner Peter Burrell, who joined Willkie Farr, and US firm Simon & Partners, which opened its doors in London late last year.

London, the crime capital of the world. In a good way.
