Willkie Farr & Gallagher has strengthened its bankruptcy and restructuring department with the hire of heavy-hitting Kaye Scholer partner Margot Schonholtz.
Schonholtz was a former super-point partner at Clifford Chance, where she was head of insolvency and restructuring, until joining Kaye Scholer as part of a five-partner team in 2005 (21 February 2005).
At Kaye Scholer her practice has focused on representing primarily institutional creditors but also a wide range of parties in debt restructurings, loan workouts and lenders in court proceedings.
Schonholtz joined Willkie along with fellow partner Ana Alfonso on 21 May.
Willkie co-chairman Steve Gartner said the firm considered its bankruptcy and restructuring group to be one of its “crown jewels”.
“Bringing in two such distinguished and accomplished practitioners broadens and strengthens our group at a time when our clients are demanding greater expertise,” Gartner added.
Michael Solow, Kaye Scholer ’s co-managing partner who also serves as co-chair of its business reorganisation group, said the firm wished Schonholtz and Alfonso well. Solow added that Mark Liscio would join him as co-chair of the business reorganisation and creditors’ rights practice.
“The firm continues to have a preeminent business reorganisation and creditors’ rights practice, comprised of more than 35 lawyers practising across the country in our Chicago, Los Angeles and New York offices,” added Solow.
