White & Case has continued the flurry of lateral partner hires in Paris by appointing Gide Loyrette Nouel corporate and regulatory partner Hugues Mathez.
Mathez joins the US firm after 11 years as a partner at Gide. He spent time in the French giant’s New York office before being made up in 2000.
His practice covers public regulatory law, M&A and restructuring work, focusing on telecoms, energy, real estate and food-processing companies.
Mathez said he was “thrilled” to be joining White & Case.
The US firm now has 30 partners and more than 120 lawyers in its Paris office, which launched 85 years ago.
The hire follows a busy start to 2011 for French lateral hires, with almost 40 partners moving firm since January.
