Travers Smith has announced an increased promotions round this year, with eight associates, including one part-time lawyer, stepping up to the partnership.
The City firm has promoted seven London associates to partner in addition to one in Paris.
Two of the new partners are in corporate, including one in France, while out of the remaining six, two are in pensions. The others are spread across four specialisms: banking; environment and safety; corporate recovery; and litigation.
Last year the firm made up four associates to partner, all in London, with two coming in corporate. It promoted just four in 2010 (12 May 2010). It made up four in each of 2008, 2009 and 2010 but added nine to the partnership in 2007 (10 May 2007).
Pensions lawyer Susie Daykin, who works part-time, will continue to do this in the partner role, with her promotion this year following the appointment of part-time tax partner Emily Clark in the last round (12 May 2011).
The promotions take effect on 1 July, with the firm’s financial year ending on 30 June.
Travers managing partner Andrew Lilley said in a statement: “All our new partners have made a significant contribution to the success of our business across the range of their practice areas, and their promotions reflect their continued commitment and hard work.”
Last year the firm decided to lengthen salaried partners’ path to equity partnership from three years to four for those not already on the junior partner ladder (5 September 2011). At the same time, the firm claims to make partners up earlier than many competitors.
