Simmons & Simmons has hired a corporate insurance partner from Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP) – its sixth hire from the firm this year.
Pollyanna Deane will join Simmons as a partner in the London corporate team on 16 January 2011. Deane was a partner in BLP’s corporate and regulatory insurance team for five years. Before that she was a partner at Clyde & Co legacy firm Barlow Lyde & Gilbert.
Deane specialises in advising on financial reinsurance, alternative risk transfer and the creation of new products for insurers and re-insurers and financial institutions. Her hire fills the gap left byJennifer Donohue, who left Simmons to join Cadwalader Wickersham & Taft in March 2010.
“There was a bit of a gap in the firm,” said James Pollack, Simmons’ head of international insurance litigation and professional risk, who added that the firm ran a targeted search to make sure they found the right person. “I focus 100 per cent on insurance litigation and we’re pretty strong on the funds side. We have people who do insurance M&A deals, but [Deane] is 100 per cent focused on insurance.”
In May Simmons hired a five-partner finance team from BLP (26 May 2011).
Simmons has also appointed a dispute resolution lawyer from DLA Piper in Rome. Giorgio Fraccastoro, who was an of counsel at DLA, joins Simmons as a partner in its Rome dispute resolution group and will lead the public law team there.
