The Stragglers – CMS Cameron McKenna

“We’re called The Stragglers,” says guitarist Jonathan Dames. “It was a toss up between that and the Strugglers but then we might get a few Stranglers fans in by mistake. Of course, we might also get done for passing off.”

The Stragglers have a strict policy regarding their musical influences – they must begin with a “K”.

“Our influences go from King Crimson to Kylie via Kraftwerk,” says Dames. “We couldn’t get ourselves into a decent band so decided to form our own. We’re telling people that our managing partner wanted us to do a Euroean tour of our eastern Europe offices and that we’ve decided to interrupt that for Law Rocks. Which sadly means we won’t be able to play at Roskilde or Glastonbury this year.”

The Stragglers has a torrid history and a revolving line up that’s left Dames and fellow guitarist Paul Smiththe only two originals.

“We had a guitarist but he left, and a concert pianist who left, and a great drummer,” remembers Dames. “He also left. Still, so far no-one’s died.”

The first-ever Law Rocks event will be at the legendary 100 Club on Thursday 18 June.

Bands from Addleshaw Goddard, Berwin Leighton Paisner, CMS, Keating Chambers, Lovells and Nabarro will battle it out before a panel of judges and compere, Mr Justice Coulson.

Passing off or no passing off, the eventis already sold out and is expected to raise several thousand of pounds for charity. But as always, donations are still needed.

In particular, Law Rocks is auctioning three pairs of tickets for the event.  Further details of how to bid for these tickets can be found on www.lawrocks.com
