Ropes raids Weil for restructuring hire

Horspool joined Weil along with O’Melveney & Myers partner Stuart Hills in 2008 (21 April 2008).

He is the second hire for Ropes in London after Maurice Allen (pictured, right) and Mike Goetz (pictured, left) set up the City branch at the end of last year (22 October 2009).

The firm took on White & Case high yield partner Jonathan Bloom as part of its launch (26 October 2009).

Allen said the firm believed restructuring capabilities were essential to balance out the firm’s practice. He added: “Even if you’re dealing with mainly European assets you have to consider all the insolvency implications. We have sponsor clients and we know the senior lender market very well.

“In the US we’ve historically acted for subordinated lenders so we know all three parts of the piece. Restructuring is a co-operative game.”

Horspool’s departure was announced internally at Weil today.
