Proskauer hires capital markets quartet to continue City expansion

Proskauer Rose has boosted its London offering with the hire of a capital markets quartet including Kaye Scholer City partner Katherine Mulhern.

The US firm has also taken on Citigroup in-house lawyer and former Baker & McKenzie partner Peter Castellon, Cravath Swaine & Moore senior attorney Roberto Bruno and Latham & Watkins New York associate Max Kirchner. Kirchner joins as a senior counsel in London, with the remaining three becoming partners.

All four lawyers are set to join the firm’s expansive London office in September, with the moves following a string of City hires by Proskauer including the recruitment of restructuring duo Mark Fennessy and Hazel Miller from Dewey & LeBoeuf (18 May 2012) and SJ Berwin funds pair Nigel van Zyl and Oliver Rochman (27 June 2012).

New York and UK-qualified Mulhern, who specialises in debt and equity capital markets, joined Kaye Scholer in 2010 from Hogan Lovells, where she headed the London US capital markets practice.

Castellon, meanwhile, is currently deputy general counsel for banking and capital markets at Citigroup, which he re-joined in 2010 after a stint as a London partner at Bakers, a position he took up two years earlier (3 March 2008).

Proskauer global capital markets co-head Frank Lopez said in a statement: “Their addition will significantly enhance our ability to advise underwriters, sponsors and issuers on cross-border capital markets transactions. Having top-notch capabilities in London in high-yield bonds and equity capital markets, our core product groups, is integral to our long-term strategy.”

Last year Proskauer hired Jones Day corporate duo Russell Carmedy and Michael Nouril (11 April 2011).
