Osborne Clarke’s Spanish alliance member has launched in Madrid with a five-partner team in a move that almost doubles the size of the firm.
Osborne Clarke Spain, a separate entity from the UK firm, has hired a team of 20 lawyers from local independent Lener.
The firm is part of an Osborne Clarke alliance consisting of independent outfits in six European jurisdictions, but is the only independent alliance member to share the firm’s brand name.
The five partner recruits are Rafael Montejo – who joins as office head – as well as David Sequera, Ángel García, Daniel Riopérez and Luis Castro.
They bring the firm’s total lawyer count to 50 and its partner count to 11, with six partners already in the Barcelona office, previously the firm’s only base.
Barcelona partner Tomás Dágá, the firm’s managing partner, said in a statement: “Our Madrid office not only puts us at the heart of the Spanish business community but also allows easy access for our international clients. We’ve succeeded in gathering a highly qualified professional team for our Madrid launch, almost doubling the size of our firm in the process.
“Our Barcelona office will continue to provide an excellent resource for our clients, with its long-established team of experts.”
Osborne Clarke set up the alliance in 1987, with members currently in Belgium, France, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Spain, as well as Germany.
Germany is the only location where the alliance member has merged with the UK partnership, although they still have separate profit pools.
