James Wauchope joins Mourant as an equity partner from Maples, where he was a partner. Wauchope has experience in offshore finance and corporate work, but will focus on investment funds at Mourant.
“It’s interesting because Mourant’s building its Cayman presence and it’s exciting to be part of that challenge,” said Wauchope. “At Maples and Calder I worked in the investment funds department too, so to some extent business as usual, but it’s an exciting opportunity to join a smaller office.
“Mourant’s looking to increase critical mass to become a more dominant player, and you need that mass to serve international businesses.”
The move comes shortly after a shake up at Maples that saw incumbent managing partners Charles Jennings and Julian Reddyhough replaced by Cayman funds partner Henry Smith (3 December 2009).
