McDermott Will & Emery has elected partners Jeffrey Stone and Peter Sacripanti as joint chairman of the firm.

New York-based partner Sacripanti and Chicago partner Stone will take up the role on 1 January 2010 after beating Washington DC partner Bobby Burchfield in an election contest.

Stone said: “We’re honoured to lead the firm through these exhilarating times, particularly in our 75th anniversary year.”

The partner duo will replace incumbent chairman Harvey Freishtat who has been chairman since 2003. Freishtat beat competing partner Michael Fayhee in a contested election to take up the role of chairman.

As the new leaders of the firm Sacripanti will chair the executive committee while Stone will chair the 21-member management committee.
