Mayer Brown boosts Paris disputes team with Ayela merger

Mayer Brown’s five-strong litigation and arbitration team has swelled to 12 following the arrival of partners Christophe Ayela and Renaud Semerdjian along with three associates and two of counsels.

Paris managing partner Jean-Philippe Lambert commented: “Before we had no real litigation team in Paris and one of the reasons Mayer Brown is still strong [globally] is that it has a good balance between litigation and transactional teams – around a 50-50 split. Now our ratio in Paris are not far from Mayer Brown’s as a whole.”

Christophe Ayela and Renaud Semerdjian will jointly lead the firm’s litigation team.

“These guys are real entrepreneurs,” said Lambert, “and they share the same strategy as us. Also, we needed to have people who are able to adapt to our international culture and that was a key element of the choice of firm.”

The merger comes shortly after Mayer Brown made up four partners in Paris.
