Greenberg Traurig Maher, which officially launched in London this month, has leased office space in London from Mayer Brown.
The US firm launched in the UK after hiring Mayer Brown’s former co-vice chairman Paul Maher. The US firm moved into 30 St Mary’s Axe on Monday.
Greenberg is leasing its London base from Maher’s former firm on the 31st floor of the building.
Greenberg London corporate partner Fiona Adams said: “We have space for 40 to 50 lawyers in the new building. We’re in the process of recruiting at the moment and there has been a lot of interest.”
Earlier this year The Lawyer exclusively revealed that Maher had joined the Miami-headquartered firm to launch the firm’s UK practice(https://www.thelawyer.com/exclusive-greenberg-hires-maher-to-build-21st-century-firm/1001029.article 15 June). Maher joined with former Mayer Brown partners Adams and environmental partner Cate Sharp.
Since Greenberg launched in July it has been based in temporary office space at City Point.
Mayer Brown said: “We have been looking to move to accommodate our growing insurance and reinsurance group for some time and the deal with Greenberg suits us as it enables us to locate the group in our new office at 201 Bishopsgate, whilst maintaining meeting rooms at St Mary Axe to ensure proximity to our insurance industry clients continues.”
