Clifford Chance has raided magic circle rival Linklaters for senior Brussels competition partner Johan Ysewyn.
Ysewyn was formerly head of Linklaters’ Belgian antitrust practice and co-head of the firm’s global cartel group.
The hire comes as a number of international firms in Brussels, particularly US practices, are beefing up their profile (12 September 2011).
Ysewyn specialises in cartel and compliance issues, state aid and Belgian competition law as well as merger control. His client list includes Fortis, KBC, and Scottish & Newcastle.
Ysewyn said: “Clifford Chance was a natural choice for me – clients have an increasingly global outlook and the firm’s international network is impressive. I have known many lawyers in the firm’s Brussels office and antitrust practice for many years and I believe I can bring fresh experience and expertise to the team. I’m thrilled to be joining.”
Meanwhile K&L Gates has hired Flavia Distefano as a partner in its antitrust, competition, and trade regulation practice from the Brussels office of McKenna Long & Aldridge. Distefano is the first lateral hire for K&L Gates’s Brussels base since it was established in February 2011.
