Congratulations to Sonia Burgess and Joanna Saunders who emerged victorious from the gruelling selection process in the annual Lawyer 2B/BPP Law School essay competition.

Saunders who has a degree in European Studies and Modern Languages from the University of Manchester, and is currently working for the Charity Commission, scooped a free place on BPP’s Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) in London.

Burgess, who won a place on the Legal Practice Course, is currently on BPP’s two-year distance learning GDL. She also gained a degree in Politics from the Univeristy of Exeter in 1991.

Burgess said: “I am totally overwhelmed. Thanks so much for awarding the prize to me. It means that I can pursue a career that I have spent almost 10 years thinking about without the stress of worrying about how I am going to finance it.”

“It really is a life changing experience for me. So thanks so much for seeing my potential and giving me this fantastic opportunity,” she added.

The duo have also won places on an open day at national law firm Addleshaw Goddard.

The winning essays will be published in the summer 2009 issue of Lawyer 2B, which is out in May.
