Holman Fenwick Willan has boosted its Perth office with the appointment of Western Australia’s former Attorney General and environment minister Cheryl Edwardes as a partner.
Edwardes will be a partner in the firm’s corporate, projects and finance practice in Perth, effective from 1 March.
She joins HFW from Australian mining giant Hancock Prospecting, where she served as the executive general manager overseeing external affairs, government relations and approvals. In this role, she helped secure most of the necessary government and regulatory approvals for the company’s major mining and infrastructure projects.
From 1993 to 2001, Edwardes held several ministerial appointments in the government of Western Australia.
HFW’s senior partner Richard Crump said that he expects Edwardes’s knowledge and experience in environmental regulation, climate change and native title rights to complement the firm’s practice in mining, resources and energy, both in Australia and internationally.
The firm opened an office in Perth, its third in Australia, in May 2011. The latest appointment brings the total number of partners in Perth to four.
