The head of Hogan Lovells’ London real estate litigation team has been put forward as the firm’s sole chair, with partners expected to vote on the appointment next week.

The board recommended board member Nicholas Cheffings to the firm’s partners last week.

If his appointment is confirmed by partners he will replace incumbent co-chairs John Young and Claudette Christian, who have shared the role since legacy firms Hogan & Hartson and Lovells merged in May 2010.

Last year the firm indicated that it would move to a sole chair (1 December 2011) after Young announced his retirement from the firm (29 November 2011).

Partners are expected to vote on Cheffings’ appointment next week.

A spokesperson for Hogan Lovells said: “The board has recommended a candidate for the position of chair and partners are voting at the moment.

“Until that process is complete we’ll follow our usual practice and refrain from making any external announcements.”
