Herbies hires Taylor Wessing partner for financial regulatory team

Herbert Smith has hired Taylor Wessing’s financial services regulatory head Clive Cunningham as its second non-contentious financial regulatory partner.

He will join Herbert Smith in early Autumn as a partner in the corporate division.

Cunningham has been a partner at Taylor Wessing since 2006, having joined from Merrill Lynch. He previously worked for Linklaters and the Bank of England.

Herbert Smith currently has five partners in its financial services regulatory team, in which Patrick Buckingham is the only non-contentious partner.

Buckingham himself moved in 2007 from Lehman Brothers, where he held the position of European regulatory counsel.

Partner Martyn Hopper, who heads the team, said: “Our financial services regulatory practice has undergone significant growth in recent years, as clients seek our help to manage their regulatory risk across multiple jurisdictions, and we are confident that Clive’s broad experience and strong cultural fit will enhance our non-contentious offering even further.”

Taylor Wessing managing partner Tim Eyles said: “It’s been a pleasure working with Clive over the last four years and we sincerely wish him the very best in his new role.”
