Winfield (pictured) will be joined by US corporate partner Ken Martin, who relocates from London, and new financial services partner Royce Miller, who joins from Citigroup.
Winfield has been a partner at the magic circle firm since 1995, working in the New York and London offices. The newly created role will seem him develop the finance practice across Asia.
He commented: “Following the economic downturn, Asia’s clearly leading the recovery. Relocating to Hong Kong will afford me the opportunity to further develop the firm’s finance practice across Asia. It’s a fabulous time to be moving here.”
Martin is relocating to bolster Freshfields’ capital markets presence in the region. He joins a US securities team in Hong Kong, headed by partner Calvin Lai.
Royce will work alongside Hong Kong financial dispute resolution partner Richard Chalk and corporate partners Robert Ashworth and Melissa Thomas.
The firm’s China managing partner Teresa Ko said: “Appointing three senior partners to the China practice demonstrates our firm’s strong commitment to China, and to strengthening and expanding our service offerings in the region as a whole.”
