European moves: 9 February 2012

All the latest partner hires and other appointments within Continental European firms and offices.


Borenius has hired Latvian IP specialist Ruta Olmane from patent agency Tria Robit. Olmane, who specialises in litigation, joins Borenius as an associate.


Osborne Clarke’s Belgian alliance partner De Wolf & Partners has elected a new management committee (31 January 2012).


US firm Hughes Hubbard has ramped up in Paris with the hire of a 10-strong team from SNR Denton (31 January 2012).

Gide Loyrette Nouel has made its first lateral hire for over a year, appointing Jones Day employment partner Anne Boileau (2 February 2012).

McDermott Will & Emery has appointed Jones Day of counsel Jacob Grierson as a partner in its Paris office. Grierson will work in the firm’s international arbitration group, dividing his time between London and Paris.

Redlink has promoted litigator Emmanuelle Behr to partner following five years at the firm as a senior associate. Behr focuses on general litigation and also IP and IT issues.


Paul Hastings and Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom have both made hires in Frankfurt. Paul Hastings picked up a trio of partners from Baker & McKenzie (8 February 2012) while Skadden turned to Shearman & Sterling (6 February 2012).

Two former Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer partners have launched a Berlin boutique law firm (3 February 2012).

Reed Smith has hired SJ Berwin’s German venture capital head Justus Binder for its Munich office (3 February 2012).

Jones Day is relocating three partners from Munich to launch in Düsseldorf (2 February 2012).

Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek has hired partner Stefan Proske and a team of lawyers from national firm Wellensiek Rechtsanwälte Partnerschaftsgesellschaft. Proske headed up Wellensiek’s Berlin office. He will join Heuking Kühn’s restructuring team in Berlin.


Baker & McKenzie has picked up former Garrigues managing partner for its Madrid office (7 February 2012).


Mason Hayes & Curran has appointed David Burke as a partner in its tax team. Burke was previously a senior manager at Macquarie Bank, advising on tax issues.


Tonucci & Partners has announced the hire of former Grimaldi e Associati partner Annalisa Pescatori (9 February 2012).

Technology boutique Portolano Colella Cavallo has promoted two lawyers to partner and two to counsel in its annual promotion round. Antonia Verna and Yan Pecoraro both become partner, while Barbara Corsetti and Andrea Gangemi become counsel. Gangemi focuses on employment, while the other three are corporate lawyers.

Employment firm Lablaw has hired two senior associates. Claudia Marasciuolo joins from Jenny & Partners, while Matteo Pollaroli was previously at Gianni Origoni Grippo & Partners.


Swedish firm Vinge has elected finance partner Maria-Pai Hope as its new managing partner (27 January 2012).

Norwegian firm Thommessen has made three partner hires and promoted three lawyers to partner, in a focus on growing its arbitration team. Asle Bjelland and Henning Harborg both join Thommessen from Advokatfirmaet Mageli. Bjelland focuses on litigation in the industrial sector, while Harborg is predominantly an arbitrator. Fellow arbitrator Christian Lund joins Thommessen from the Norwegian attorney general’s department.

Meanwhile litigators Margrethe Buskerud Christofferson and Camilla Vislie, along with financial markets specialist Tore Mydske, have been promoted to partner from within the firm.

Salans has picked up competition partner Marat Mouradov from Baker & McKenzie in Moscow (1 February 2012).


Froriep Renggli has elected Catrina Luchsinger Gähwiler as its new managing partner (2 February 2012).
