DLA Piper’s Brazilian alliance firm Campos Mello Advogados (CMA) has continued its hiring spree, with the addition of a 14-strong team including two partners from a rival firm.
Luiz Antonio Maia Espínola de Lemos and Fabiano Gallo join the Rio de Janeiro office from Brazil’s largest firm Tozzini Freire Advogados. They bring with them a total of 12 fee-earners.
This follows news that CMA has hired project finance partner Roberto Barros from Linklaters, three corporate partners from Machado Associados – René Gelman, Martim Machado and Adriano Chaves – and tax litigator Fernando Salvia, from an independent firm to expand its Sao Paulo offering (see story).
DLA Piper formed a cooperation agreement with CMA this year and is currently in the process of obtaining a foreign consultancy license, enabling it to manage international aspects of Brazilian deals.
It is one of the latest international firms to recognise the significance of this major emerging market, with Baker & McKenzie recently announcing the election of its Brazil chief Eduardo Leite as the firm’s global chairman (see story)
