DLA boosts NY restructuring group with Skadden hire

DLA Piper has given its New York restructuring group a boost with the hire of a partner from Skadden Arps Slate Meager & Flom.

Gregg Galardi, a restructuring partner at Skadden, joins DLA Piper as partner and co-chair of the bankruptcy and reorganisation group based in New York.

Galardi has more than 20 years’ experience acting for borrowers and debtors in high profile, multi-jurisdiction bankruptcies.

In a statement DLA Piper’s joint CEO Nigel Knowles said: “As a leader in the international restructuring space, Gregg will be instrumental in meeting the short- and long-term needs of companies, as distressed opportunities arise.

“Gregg’s experience will also help our private equity and hedge fund clients identify opportunities for distressed asset acquisitions.”

DLA Piper has made a slew of hires in restructuring and insolvency this year as part of its bid to expand its global transactions practice. On 16 May the firm announced that it had hired a team of Madrid lawyers from Spanish firm Roca Junyent (16 May 2011).

In April the firm hired Craig Rasile and Andrew Zaron as partners in Miami. In March, the firm brought in bankruptcy expert Stuart Brown to lead its new Wilmington office while a month before a team of five partners joined the firm in Chicago.
