Cobbetts unveils marginal turnover rise

Manchester firm Cobbetts has posted a marginal increase in turnover for the 2011-12 financial year, up 1.6 per cent from £44.5m to £45.2m.

While no one at the firm was available to comment, the firm said in a statement that business restructuring services and litigation teams both delivered “stand-out growth”, with the litigation practice posting an 8 per cent rise in revenues.

A statement from senior partner Stephen Benson said: “We’re pleased with our results, operating in what continues to be a challenging economic environment.

“These results provide the platform for consolidating our position as a regional leader and building on our successful and growing international work.”

It comes after an uncertain year for Cobbetts in which it considered a tie-up with DWF (18 January 2012) only for the talks to be called off with both firms blaming “uncertain market conditions” (31 January 2012).

In March the firm’s longstanding managing partner Michael Shaw stood down after 16 years, stating that he would not stand for election in this year’s contest (26 March 2012).
