Cleary promotes one to City partnership in four-strong global round

Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton has made up one London-based associate in its latest round of partner promotions.

Corporate partner Sam Bagot, who joined the US firm’s London office in 2007 from Slaughter and May in 2007, has been promoted to partner along with three other associates: litigator Roger Cooper in New York, corporate specialist Mike Preston in Hong Kong and Moscow-based Yulia Solomakhina, who specialises in Russian M&A deals.

The firm has also promoted four associates to counsel: Jaewoo Lee in Hong Kong, Olivier Loizon in Paris, Michele Piergiovanni in Brussels and Andrew Weaver in New York.

Global managing partner Mark Walker said: “These lawyers are resident in our New York, London, Paris, Brussels, Hong Kong and Moscow offices, and they continue our tradition of internationalism, which is more important than ever in today’s global market.”

The promotions, which will be effective from 1 January 2011, will bring the firm’s total number of partners to 195 and the number of counsel to 49.
