Chicago’s Vedder Price opens two-partner London arm

US firm Vedder Price has launched a London office, its first overseas outpost, with lawyers from Clyde & Co and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.

The Chicago-headquartered firm’s London office will focus on global transportation finance. It will initially be staffed by two partners and five associates.

One of the partners, Gavin Hill, was previously head of the aviation finance practice at Clyde & Co. The other partner, Derek Watson, was a senior associate at Freshfields. The five associates all previously worked at Clydes.

Vedder Price president and CEO Michael Nemeroff said the firm’s goal was to establish a beachhead in London with global transportation finance and add further practice capabilities depending on client needs.

“This is a milestone in Vedder Price’s 60-year history,” Nemeroff said in a statement.

Yesterday The Lawyer reported that a team led by Vedder Price partner Geoffrey Kass had advised Macquarie Bank on Engine Lease Finance Corporation’s acquisition of 47 aircraft engines (10 October 2011).
