The lawsuit against Mulcaire was filed in the Chancery Division of the High Court yesterday (22 February 2012).

Mulcaire was jailed in 2007 – the year Booth’s husband Tony Blair stood down as UK Prime Minister – for hacking into phone messages for the now-defunct News of the World (NoW), which was owned by News Group Newspapers,

Payne Hicks Beach partner Sarah Webb, who has acted for Mulcaire in the past, said that she had only just heard about the action, but that she expects to be defending Mulcaire.

Likewise, Olswang partner Dan Tench has been tasked with defending News Group Newspapers on actions relating to the fall-out from the NoW phone hacking, but could provide no comment on this latest action.

Matrix Chambers did not respond in time to comment.
