The first round of voting in the Clifford Chance senior partner election has closed with not one of the three candidates polling the 50 per cent of votes required to be declared victorious.
Tax partner Jonathan Elman, finance partner Malcolm Sweeting and German corporate partner Daniela Weber-Rey will all now move forward to a second round, with voting expected to start in the next few days.
It is not yet known whether all three candidates will decide to stand in the subsequent round of voting.
The eventual winner will replace Stuart Popham in the New Year. Popham will have been senior partner at the magic circle firm for eight years when he stands down.
Clifford Chance declined to comment on the election process.
