Kitchin, who headed the Tokyo office’s corporate and projects practice, left the firm at the end of July, just over a year after joining from Ashurst (17 February 2010). The partner has taken the firm’s retirement package.

Kitchin told The Lawyer: “After 35 years of practice I’ve decided to retire and pursue other interests. It’s been very rewarding and fulfilling and it’s time to do something different.”

Clifford Chance confirmed that Andrew Whan would be based in Tokyo but would continue to advise his Hong Kong clients.

A spokesperson for the firm said: “We can confirm that Alan left Clifford Chance at the end of July. We wish him well in the future.”

Whan, who has been a Clifford Chance partner since 2006, was based in Hong Kong for nearly a decade and advises on public and private M&A.
