Ashurst’s former corporate head Roger Finbow has joined the Competition Commission as a reporting panel member along with Linklaters partner Tony Morris.

They are two of 11 new appointments to the commission made by the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform. They join members from a range of backgrounds including a scientist and an economist.

Competition Commission chair Peter Freeman said: “One of the CC’s greatest strengths is the range of experience and viewpoints that our members bring to their role as decision makers in our inquiries. These appointments will clearly continue that tradition.”

Finbow retires from Ashurst at the end of April, having been a partner with the firm since 1984. He was managing partner of the corporate department for the past five years and has been replaced in that role by Stephen Lloyd (9 March).

Finbow, who specialises in the transport, food and drink and sports sectors, also leads Ashurst’s sports group.

Morris, who began his career with Herbert Smith before a brief stint with Slaughter and May, has been a partner at Linklaters since 1985.

His practice focuses on the control of cartels and mergers and the conduct of industry competition inquiries.

Finbow joins the commission on 1 May and Morris joins in September. Both will serve as panel members until 2017.
