Allen & Overy has promoted 15 to the position of counsel, an alternative career path created by the firm in 2006.

The 15 counsel have been been promoted across nine jurisdictions in three continents. The biggest single group, with a total of four counsel, were made up in Luxembourg, while just three are based in London.

Managing partner Wim Dejonghe (pictured) said: “It’s as important as ever to recognise the work that our people do and invest in the long-term future of our business.

“The position of counsel not only recognises our senior lawyers’ achievements, but allows them to continue to develop their careers. On behalf of the firm, I’d like to congratulate all of our new counsel on achieving this milestone in their careers.”

This follows news that the firm promoted 20 to the partnership this year, forty per cent of whom are women (1 May).
