3 Verulam Buildings (3VB) senior clerk Nick Hill is to leave the set to take up the same role at intellectual property set Three New Square.
Hill is seen as being responsible for building 3VB up over the past 12 years.
The set, which is headed by Ali Malek QC (15 October 2009), has come to dominate commercial court proceedings. Last year it was involved in the mammoth Berezovsky v Abramovichtrial (14 September 2011); Lehman Brothers litigation (27 July 2011) and the Harry Potter plagiarism trial (6 April 2011).
Three New Square is widely believed to be among the most profitable sets at the bar. The set’s senior clerk Ian Bowie stood down in December after 40 years at chambers, 25 of them as head of the clerking team.
Hill said the move “represents for me a new challenge following the period of significant growth and success at 3VB”.
3VB’s Malek commented: “While we’re sorry to see Nick leave we fully understand that he feels that the time is right to undertake a new challenge.”
Hill will leave 3VB at the end of March and join Three New Square on 1 July, when there will be a hand over period before Bowie leaves at the end of September.
