South Square’s Knowles and No 5’s Dove join High Court Bench

Robin Knowles QC of South Square Chambers and No5 Chambers’ deputy head Ian Dove QC have become the latest additions to the High Court bench.

Both appointments were announced yesterday (1 September) and take effect on 1 October.

Knowles is replacing Mr Justice Bean and Dove Mrs Justice King, following their elevation to the Court of Appeal earlier this summer (31 July 2014).

Knowles was called to the bar in 1982 and took silk in 1999. He is a former chair of the Commercial Bar Association and his broad practice has seen him acting on cases including the landmark bankruptcy case of Rubin v Eurofinance in the Supreme Court (24 October 2012).

In a statement, Knowles said he was “very sad” to leave South Square. “It is a place of the greatest strength and the highest standards, across the commercial law field; it is a place of exceptional colleagues and utterly professional clerking and staff,” he added.

Dove was called to the bar in 1986 and took silk in 2003. His practice encompasses coronial law, immigration and asylum cases, and planning and environmental law.
