Shepherd & Wedderburn today announced the hire of partner Gordon Moir and a team of four from Australian firm Webb Henderson to its litigation, regulation and markets team based in London and Edinburgh.
Moir was previously general counsel of BT Retail and headed up the telecoms giant’s antitrust group before leaving to join the Glasgow Housing Association as company secretary (2 November 2009).
He launched UK operations for Webb Henderson in London three years ago. Consultant Annemaree McDonough, assistant Daniel van der Wel, a paralegal and a non fee-earner have all also moved to Shepherd & Wedderburn.
The hire follows a rise in turnover for the firm during the 2013/14 financial year, rising 7 per cent from £35.9m to £38.3m (10 June 2014).
According to the firm, Moir’s appointment will play a pivotal role in its plans for expansion, presenting a “great opportunity to realise the synergies between its highly successful and growing multi-disciplinary energy and natural resources practice and the telecoms sector”.
Moir’s hire is the second high profile appointment made by Shepherd & Wedderburn in the last fortnight, following the hire of former DLA Piper construction partner Gareth Parry (19 August 2014). In May two internal promotions were made in the firm’s key sectors of energy and natural resources, and real estate.
