Commercial litigator Savaria Harris joins DLA Piper in New York

DLA Piper has announced that Savaria Harris has joined the firm’s litigation practice as a partner based in New York. She will also practice in Washington DC.

A versatile general litigator and trial lawyer, Harris’s experience includes a range of complex commercial matters, including mass tort, contract disputes, antitrust and patent litigation, as well as federal investigations and enforcement actions. Her practice also focuses on anti-fraud litigation and compliance counselling under the US False Claims Act.

Harris is a member of the Advisory Council for the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, the world’s largest anti-fraud organisation and premier provider of anti-fraud training education and certification. She is also a member of the New York University Program on Corporate Compliance and Enforcement, an invitation-only organisation that promotes research on the effective enforcement of legal rules and on methods and strategies for enhancing compliance with applicable standards. She also holds an adjunct teaching position at Georgetown University on workplace ethics.

In addition, Harris maintains an active pro-bono practice in the area of civil rights law, with a focus on discrimination cases, and was awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award by the Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs for her representation of clients against a national discount department store for violations under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

She joins DLA Piper from Kirkland & Ellis, where she practised in Washington DC. She earned her JD from Georgetown University Law Center and her BA from Yale University.
