Gunnercooke expands in London with partner quartet

Manchester firm Gunnercooke has expanded its London base with the addition of four partners hires following a recruitment drive in the City.

The four corporate partners include former K&L Gates partner Peter Davis; Alistair Crellin, who until 2010 was partner with Bird & Bird; partner Tim Drake from MJ Hudson and Matthew Searle who joins from Adams and Remers.

Davis joined K&L Gates in 2007 from Farrer & Co, where he specialised in M&A, but also advises on real estate, property fund, banking and asset finance deals (8 May 2007).

Gunnercooke is a partner-only firm, with additional support coming from a growing bank of legal counsel, who work for the firm on a freelance basis.

The London hires bring the number of partners in the office to five. Gunnercooke founder Daryl Cooke commented: “Though Manchester will always be our administrative hub, London is quickly becoming viewed as our head office.”

The growth spurt comes just months after the firm expanded the Manchester base through the hire of four partners.

In July the firm launched a Manchester litigation group through the addition of Hill Dickinson financial crime consultant Mike Kenyon; former Irwin Mitchell partner Sarah Sharpe, who left the firm to launch her own boutique two years ago; former Gorvins disputes consultant David Joseph and former Cobbetts commercial litigation partner Mark Whittell, who spent 27 years at the firm prior to its takeover by DWF earlier this year.

All four lawyers joined the firm as partners.
